I just don't get it.
The Democrats had the Republicans by the damn GONADS and then they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Just LOOK at the language of this 'compromise' and tell me we didn't just get reamed big time on the details.
Not only do three of the WORST Judges get almost certain confirmation now, but the 'deal' to let the Democrats retain power of the minority is contingent on the GOOD FAITH of the GOP!
People, you should know BETTER then to trust the lying liars of the right!
More on the flip.
From the
Story.
'Under the terms, Democrats agreed to allow final confirmation votes for Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and William Pryor, appeals court nominees they have long blocked. There is "no commitment to vote for or against" the filibuster against two other conservatives named to the appeals court, Henry Saad and William Myers.'
So three conservative hack activists go through, with another two probables.
And we don't even get 10 pieces of silver in return. No, we get THIS instead.
The agreement said future judicial nominees should "only be filibustered under extraordinary circumstances," with each senator -- presumably the Democrats -- holding the discretion to decide when those conditions had been met.
"In light of the spirit and continuing commitments made in this agreement," Republicans joined Democrats in pledging to oppose any attempt to make changes in the application of filibuster rules -- a commitment that Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio said at the news conference was conditional on Democrats upholding their end of the deal.
Am I the only one who sees the scam Republicans have pulled off here?
Democrats, pointing to a slight change in wording from an earlier draft, said the deal would preclude Republicans from attempting to deny them the right to filibuster. Republicans said that was not ironclad, but valid only as long as Democrats did not go back on their word to filibuster only in extraordinary circumstances.
"Extraordinary circumstances."
Democrats and Republicans are never going to agree on just what constitutes that, look at the impassioned defense the GOP came up with for the current wingnuts about to take the bench. And a blind man could see what's going to happen as soon as the Republicans get those judges in, the first time the Democrats try to filibuster another right wing extremist, the Republicans are going to go back on their word and accuse the Democrats of breaking the agreement. They'll point to the fact that the Democrats let THIS crop of rightwingers through, so why not the next batch too?
So the Republicans get their way without actually giving anything up, while the Democrats have only DELAYED the inevitable fight and LOST the high ground on 'activist judges'.
So tell me again, how the heck is this a win for our side?
